Curriculum Vitae
Gerald Steiner was born in Wolfsberg, Austria, on October 6, 1975. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, in 2002. He received the Ph.D. degree from this university for his work on the fusion of ultrasound and electrical capacitance tomography for industrial process imaging applications in 2006.
Since 2002 he has been a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Electrical Measurement and Measurement Signal Processing of the Graz University of Technology, where he currently is a research coordinator of the Process Measurement Group. The research group has a focus on tomographic imaging of industrial processes using electrical impedance and ultrasound measurements. The methods can be used to spatially resolve material distributions in multi-phase industrial processes in order to perform flow measurement and process monitoring and control.
His teaching activities include process and acoustic measurement techniques. Besides process tomography his research interests cover ultrasonics, statistical signal processing, modelling and parameter estimation of distributed parameter systems, and robust design. He is author or co-author of 40 international journal and conference papers. Gerald Steiner has served as reviewer for the World University Service, IEEE Transactions on Measurement and Instrumentation, and IEE Proceedings on Science, Measurement and Technology.
He received scholarships of the Rudolph Chaudoire Foundation and of the Julius Raab Foundation. He was given a Best Presentation Award at the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT) 2004. In the same year he received the Emerald Literati Club Highly Commended Award for a research paper published in the International Journal of Computation and Mathematics in Electrical Engineering (COMPEL). In 2006, at the XVIII IMEKO World Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, he received the Gyorgi Striker Junior Paper Award.
